John Wils Honeycutt, age 83, of Poplar, passed away on Tuesday, February 24th, 2026 at his home. He was a son of the late James and Lilly Adkins Honeycutt. In addition to his parents John was also preceded in death by the love of his life for 57 ½ years, Pennie Barnett Honeycutt. Two brothers, Burgin and Sam Honeycutt and two sisters Marie Miller and Sarah Ann Jones.
John was never happier than when he was outdoors. He loved to mow his lawn in neat, perfect lines. His yard wasn’t just property, it was a point of pride and a reflection of his patience and dedication. His barn was also a place of solitude for John as it was home to his many antiques. He had a keen eye for beautiful glassware, appreciating the craftsmanship and history each piece carried. His shelves held carefully curated finds, each with its own story. Alongside the glassware sat his beloved collection of toy car models. From classic vintage styles to detailed replicas, each tiny car was admired and displayed with pride.
Surviving is his daughter, Tammy Hodge (Adam York) of Spruce Pine; special grandson, Drake Hodge; three sisters: Nancy Hyatt, Betty Frasier and Arlene Barla. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Private services will be held at a later date in the Byrd Cemetery on Pigeon Roost.
