Leona Presnell, age 59, of Burnsville, North Carolina, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2026, in Hendersonville, North Carolina.
Born on August 11, 1966, in Yancey County, North Carolina, Leona was the daughter of the late Vernon James Presnell and Mary Louise (Hudgins) Burgin. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Victoria Snyder; her sister, Charlene Presnell Grindstaff; her brother, Joseph Burgin; and a brother-in-law, Steve Murphy.
Leona was a woman with a big heart and a simple, loving spirit. She was always caring for others and willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Known for her kindness, humility, and wonderful sense of humor, Leona brought comfort and joy to those around her. Above all, she loved her family deeply; especially her grandbabies, who were the light of her life.
Those left to cherish her memory include her mother, Mary Louise Burgin; her daughter, Tonya Wilson (Jamie) of Bakersville; her brothers, Wesley Presnell of Burnsville, Vernon Presnell (Kim) of Old Fort, and Charles Burgin; her sisters: Becky Hughes (Gary) of Burnsville, Sheila Murphy of Green Mountain, and Pamela Burgin of Burnsville; her grandchildren, Aaron and Emily; and a special friend, Rob. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved her dearly.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Russell Hughes will be officiating. Special music will be brought by Crystal Marsh and Mary Lou Wilson. The pallbearers will be Fabian, Austin, Devin, Jamie, Gary, and B.J. Interment will follow at Ballew Cemetery in Burnsville, NC.
The family would like to thank the staff of Pardee Hospital and Four Seasons Hospice for their exceptional care of Leona and would also like to say special thanks to our dear cousin, Karen Hudgins.
