In honor of heart month, Health Science students from Mitchell High School CTE teamed up to teach younger students in Mitchell County Schools how to properly complete hands-only CPR. Greenlee Primary and Mitchell Elementary (5th grade) participated in the American Heart Association Kids Heart Challenge and took to the mannequins to practice hands-only CPR. Students were encouraged to go home and teach their family these skills using stuffed animals or pillows, with emphasis being placed on not practicing on people or pets. The 5th grade students competed in a compression challenge, proving they are mighty warriors in the fight against heart disease. Students also completed mock 911 call scenarios to help them learn how to speak clearly, calmly, and concisely in an emergency.
As heart month wraps up we would like to celebrate that approximately 600 Mitchell County Schools students earned and practiced hands-only CPR this month to join in the battle against the number 1 killer in the US.
Thank you Greenlee Primary and Mitchell Elementary for providing this leadership opportunity to our health science students and joining in our fight to save lives with CPR.
