Freda Ann Ballew, 63, of Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 4th, 2026 at the Yancey House.
A lifelong resident of Yancey County, she was born in the Low Gap Community on April 30th, 1962 to the late Jack Ballew and Vivaleen Penland Riddle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her great grandmother, Sallie Ray McMahan; a brother, Jack Lawrence “J.L.” Ballew; her grandparents Lawrence and Catharein Penland and a very special; uncle, Ralph McMahan.
Freda was a wonderful Christian woman and the love she had for her Lord and Savior was foremost in her life. She found great joy in reading her Bible and listening to gospel music.
Left to cherish her memory are a special aunt, Marlene McMahan; a brother, Roger Penland; two sisters: Debbie Lominac (Al) and Virginia Robinson; an aunt, Essie Bartlett; nephew, Kyle Penland and several special cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 15th at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Greg Alderman, chaplain for Medi Home Hospice and pastor of South Estatoe Baptist Church will officiate. Receiving of friends will be held from 2 until 3 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Eddie McMahan Cemetery at Low Gap in Burnsville.
