Alfred Cornett, age 76, of Bakersville, North Carolina, passed away Friday, March 6, 2026 at his residence.
Alfred loved and greatly encouraged his children, his large extended family, many friends, coworkers, and he opened his heart to the youth that he coached. He connected quickly with people of all ages and was a trusted and successful senior insurance agent for Farm Bureau in Bakersville, Newland, and Hendersonville, NC. Alfred absolutely loved life and lived life to the fullest, reflecting God’s love in the way he lived. His parents and grandparents, aunts and uncles favored him and taught him to work hard and play hard. He loved both his work and his play, but most of all Alfred loved Jesus, worshipped Him throughout each day, and looked for ways to talk about Jesus with anyone around him. He supported multiple international missionaries in their work of spreading The Gospel. He loved The Bible as God’s Holy Word and enjoyed leading multiple Bible studies over many years, inviting coworkers to Bible study, which he led and hosted with a meal at his home after he retired. He enjoyed supporting and attending “Promise Keepers.” He was a firm believer in the power and importance of prayer and was a consistent “prayer warrior,” leading prayers regularly with family, friends, visitors, and caregivers. As an active church member, Alfred taught Sunday School for many years, was a deacon, and encouraged his and other pastors and Christian leaders with his prayers, finances, and frequent messages of support. Alfred was a “Paw-Paw Burleson and Uncle Russell trained” sportsman. If he had a fishing or hunting story it had immediate credibility. He started a Christian Sportsman Fellowship, often hosting special events for men and boys, teaching and modeling good sportsmanship himself and bringing expert presenters to teach at meetings. Alfred had a personal relationship with Jesus, walking with Him daily. He showed his great love openly for Jesus, for his family, hunting, fishing, the mountains, the woods, all of God’s creation, listening to and telling stories, visiting with loved ones. He now is walking with Jesus eternally in a perfect place called Heaven.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Jennie B. Cornett and brother, Herman Jr. Cornett.
Those left to cherish his memory are his spouse, June Silver Cornett; children, Amy Cornett, Chris Cornett (Julie), and Kelcie Cornett; grandchildren, Maddox, Savanah (Jared), Hunter (Kelcy), and Richard (Sarah); great-grandchildren, Rosie, Charlie, Indiana, Scotlyn, Harper, Anderson, Lizzie, and Whitlee; step-grandchildren, Kayleigh (Daniel), Karsyn (Jeremiah), Cameron (Lexi), and Mary Katherine; siblings, Gay Gouge (David) and Barbara (Homer) Murdock; along with several nieces and nephews, other extended family, close friends, and church family.
