The Paradigm project is over and the Micaville amphitheater idea has been tabled. These two Yancey County projects have had significant chatter recently on social media. After the March 9 meeting of the Yancey County Board of Commissioners, Commission Chair Jeff Whitson addressed questions from residents about the status of the Paradigm project.

Whitson said the county previously entered into an agreement with Paradigm concerning property intended for development as an industrial park on the west side of town. He explained that the company was officially declared in default of the contract in December 2025, and the county has since completed the required paperwork related to that default. Because of the default, the land will revert back to county ownership under the terms of the agreement.

Whitson noted the property was originally purchased to support the creation of an industrial park, and county officials remain committed to that plan.

Plans for a proposed amphitheater at the former Little Leaf Farms site in the Micaville area will not move ahead after the project did not receive the grant funding needed. County commissioners will continue exploring ways to use the property for projects that would benefit the community.
