Benjamin David Atwood, age 50, of Old Fort, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 7th, 2026 at his home. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and was the son of David Ray and Lane Carpenter Atwood.
Benjamin had a true passion for the outdoors. Whether he was fishing at sunrise, hunting in the quiet of the woods or hiking along his favorite trails; he felt most at home surrounded by nature. He also loved time on the water, especially water skiing and relaxing in the sun.
Music was always close to his heart and there was rarely a moment when a good song didn’t make him smile. Benjamin loved making the people around him laugh. His sense of humor and joyful spirit brought light to everyone lucky enough to know him. Above all, he loved his family. They were the center of his world and the people he was most proud of. He was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back without hesitation and always ready to help someone in need.
He will be remembered for his generous heart, his love of life and the countless memories he created with family and friends. Though he will be deeply missed, his laughter, kindness and adventurous spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, left to cherish his memory his wife: Beth Parker Atwood of Old Fort, NC; daughter, Kennedy Atwood of Spruce Pine, NC: two sons: Kasey and Kaleb Atwood also of Spruce Pine, NC: grandsons: Colten Atwood and Seth Taylor; a granddaughter, Averie Taylor; two great-grandchildren: Maggie and Addie Taylor; sisters: Tracy Burleson and Kimberly Atwood.
The family will have a Celebration of Life on Saturday, March the 21st, 2026 at 12 noon at Cane Creek Baptist Church. Pastor Lonnie McClellan will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church.
