Jimmy Dale Barnett

Jimmy Dale Barnett, age 88,passed away unexpectedly in a automobile accident on Monday, March 9th, 2026.

He was a native of Yancey, NC and a son of the late Floyd Lee and Elvie Byrd Barnett. In addition to his parents, Jimmy was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 35 years, Kay Burnett Barnett and brothers: Herman, Donald and Bob Barnett.

Jimmy was a hardworking man whose life was defined by dedication, craftsmanship and a deep love for his family. He proudly served his country in the United States Army before beginning a long and respected career as a pipe fitter at Ally Pipe Company, where his strong work ethic and skill left a lasting impression on all who knew him up until his retirement.  Outside of work, Jimmy found his greatest happiness outdoors. Whether he was landscaping, mowing his yard or lending a helping hand to his dear friend Claudette, he took pride in keeping busy and making things better wherever he could. He had a true builder’s spirit and was known for being able to create or fix just about anything.

He enjoyed a good dip of Skoal tobacco, had a soft spot for Little Debbie snacks. He cherished time spent camping; especially when it included his favorite meal of salt and pepper catfish cooked over the fire.  One of his greatest joys was time spent with his children when they were younger. He loved taking them off-roading in his beloved machine, famously known as the “Blue Goose,” creating memories that will be treasured forever.

Left to cherish the memory of Jimmy is daughters: Ann Barnett Burgess (Philip) of Oakboro, NC and Patsy Barnett of Dallas, NC; two sons: Jimmy Barnett of Horn Lake, Mississippi and Bryon Barnett of Jonesboro, TN; a step-daughter, Darlene Davis Cassidy of Green Mountain; special friend, Claudette Imbriano of Pigeon Roost; brother, Randal Barnett.  Several cousins and other extended family also survive.
