Bakersville Funeral Services Opens!
New locally owned and operated funeral service to restore essential services to Bakersville, North Mitchell County following Hurricane Helene
Garland Honeycutt and Steve Hoilman, two locals with deep roots in the mountains of Western North Carolina, today announced the launch of Bakersville Funeral
Services, LLC, a locally owned and operated funeral establishment set to open Monday, April 13. The new business will restore critical funeral services to Bakersville and North Mitchell County communities following the devastation brought by Hurricane Helene in September 2024.
Honeycutt will own the establishment, while operations will be initially led by Steve Hoilman, a Mitchell County native and familiar face in Bakersville. Hoilman brings over 30 years of experience as a funeral director with Henline-Hughes Funeral Home, making him uniquely qualified to carry forward the legacy of compassionate service that families have come to expect.
“Our community has faced tremendous challenges since Hurricane Helene swept through our mountains,” said Honeycutt. “The loss of the Henline-Hughes Funeral Home as families knew it before the storm left a void in our community. With Steve’s three decades of experience serving families here, Bakersville Funeral Services will carry forward that tradition of compassionate care.”
Experienced Leadership with Deep Community Connections. The launch represents more than a new business – it continues a proud tradition of compassionate service. Since Hurricane Helene, families have been forced to travel far from home for services.
Personal, Hometown Service. Bakersville Funeral Services will focus on personal service, meeting families wherever they are most comfortable. Services will be available throughout Bakersville and surrounding communities.
Location: 264 Baker Lane, Bakersville, NC 28705
