The Cane River Middle School golf team are conference champions. This historic accomplishment was led by Macaiah Davidson, Caden Anglin, and Nolan Deyton, the Rebels won four of six tournaments and captured the conference title, ending Mitchell County’s long-standing run as conference champions.

Davidson finished the season as the number one golfer in the region, while Anglin ranked second and Deyton finished fifth overall. Their consistency throughout the season gave Cane River the strongest lineup in the conference. The regional championship team also included Kemper Johnson, Colton Crump, William Anglin, David Banks, Frank Kahn, Isaiah Anglin, and William McKinney, all of whom contributed to the Rebels’ successful season.

Over the years, a number of coaches and assistant coaches have contributed to the growth of both the East Yancey and Cane River programs. Coach Cedergren has been the one constant throughout that time, often coaching both teams. Coach Cedergren enjoys introducing students of all experience levels to the challenging and rewarding game of golf. This season, Coach Joey Miller joined the program as the East Yancey coach while Coach Cedergren coached the Cane River team, though both coaches worked closely together with players from both schools throughout the season.

Though Yancey County does not have year-round access to a public golf course as other counties do, the program is very grateful to Mountain Air for allowing the teams to practice at its course and practice facilities each spring. The players made the most of every opportunity they had, and this championship reflects years of building a program centered on sportsmanship, hard work, and a love for the game.
