The Toe River Health District has concluded its investigation into the Salmonella outbreak linked to El Ranchero restaurant in Spruce Pine.

Health officials say no new illnesses have been reported since the restaurant implemented food safety measures.

Laboratory testing confirmed five cases of Salmonella connected to the outbreak. Investigators determined the illness was likely spread through cross-contamination in the restaurant’s kitchen rather than a single food item.

The health department says El Ranchero has corrected the identified food safety issues and will continue to receive follow-up support.

Health Director Mason Gardner thanked the community for its cooperation and said protecting the health and safety of residents remains the department’s top priority.
