The Quartz Corp has announced plans to indefinitely close one of its quartz production facilities in Spruce Pine as part of an effort to adapt to changing conditions in the global high-purity quartz market.

Company officials say the renewable energy industry, a major market for The Quartz Corp, continues to face persistent international challenges that have created a difficult business environment. As a result, the company is making operational changes designed to improve efficiency and strengthen its long-term position.

The closure affects the company’s quartz production facility located on Altapass Highway in Spruce Pine and will result in a workforce reduction of approximately 20 to 30 employees. The Quartz Corp says its other U.S. locations will not be impacted.

According to the company, the decision followed an extensive review of market conditions, customer commitments, and the long-term health of the business. Officials say the changes are intended to stabilize operations and align with the company’s strategic plans for 2026.

The Quartz Corp says it is committed to supporting employees affected by the closure and will work with impacted workers, business partners, and their families with respect, transparency, and support throughout the transition.
