Scott Easley, age 63, of the Burnsville community, was reunited with his parents on Thursday, June 25, 2026. He was a son of the late Alen and Mary Brown Easley. Scott was also preceded in death by an infant son and a great-nephew, Brandon Warner.
Scott was truly one of a kind. He was a character in every sense of the word. He was funny, quick-witted, mischievous, and always ready with a joke or a prank. From the time he was a child, Scott loved keeping people on their toes. He had a playful spirit and a way of bringing laughter into even the most ordinary moments. He loved to joke, tease, and make people laugh, and that part of him never really changed. He loved his family and would always follow his sis around and was always there when she needed him. Scott was the kind of person who would give anyone the shirt off his back or his last dollar if he thought they needed it more than he did. He cared deeply for the people around him and showed that love not only through words, but through his actions.
Scott was also a proud Veteran who honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1979 until 1985. He carried the strength, courage, and resilience of a Marine throughout his life. During his service, Scott endured something unimaginable. On October 23, 1983, while stationed in Beirut, his barracks were bombed in a devastating attack. Scott was the sole survivor. It was a tragedy that changed his life forever and a burden few could truly understand. Despite experiencing such profound loss and hardship, Scott continued moving forward with remarkable strength. He came home carrying experiences that would shape him forever, yet he still found ways to serve and care for others. He poured himself into his work, using his carpentry skills to build, repair, and help wherever he was needed.
Left to cherish his memory are his siblings: Terri Hughes (Roger), Becky Prieve (Spike) and Zane Easley (Marissa); nieces and nephews: Skip Warner (Wendy), Joe Warner (Sandy), Mandy Carpenter (Roger), Jolene, Eric Prieve, Randy Prieve, Deric Hughes, Joesph Warner and Zackary Warner (Megan); great-nieces and great-nephews: Nicky Warner (Kyle), Katelyn Mashburn (Patrick), Alli O’Neill (Kolton), Dakota Carpenter (Jada) and Adam Carpenter (Gina); great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews: Jon Dillon, Perry and Sara Warner, Ivy, Ember and Lawson Mashburn, Weston Carpenter and Penelope O`Neill.
Funeral Service will be held on July 11, 2026 in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Service at 6 p.m. with Rev. Skip Weiford officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Military Honors will be conducted by the Sgt. E.L. Randolph Chapter #57 D.A.V.
