Ethel Hughes Ollis

Ethel Hughes Ollis, age 95, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 2, 2026.

She was the daughter of the late Will and Rosa Street Hughes.

She was a graduate of East Tennessee State University and was a devoted school teacher for 42 years with Mitchell County Schools. She was a dedicated member of Spring Creek Baptist Church.

Ethel loved the Word of God. She read the Bible through many times and memorized many chapters and scriptures.

She is survived by her son, Alvin Ollis and wife Cynthia; a granddaughter, Allison; two grandsons, Isaac (Brittany) and Isaiah (Eric); and three great-grandsons, Thatcher, Shiloh, and Canyon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Farrell Ollis; two sisters, Zeda Parker and Madeline Hughes; and twin brothers, Valley and Floyd Hughes.

The family would like to recognize two very special friends of Ethel: Linda and Lawrence Shell, who drove her to church every Sunday morning.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 4 at 7:00 p.m. at Spring Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Kelly Bryant will officiate, with music under the direction of Ethel’s family. The family will receive friends and guests two hours prior to the service.

A graveside service will be Wednesday, August 5 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hughes Cemetery on Blevins Branch Road.

Isaac Ollis, Isaiah Ollis, Jamie Hughes, and Greg Buchanan will serve as pallbearers. The men of Spring Creek Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
