Charles Lee Stewart, 87, of Spruce Pine, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 7th, 2026, at Mission Hospital .
He was born on August 16, 1938, in Mitchell County, North Carolina, to the late George and Rosa (Butner) Stewart.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his brothers: Harry Stewart, George Jr. Stewart, Frank Stewart, Lewis Stewart, and Jimmy Stewart; and sisters: Carrie Wise Stewart and Virginia Jones Stewart.
Charles was a homebody and was devoted to his wife, Mary Louise Stewart, with whom he shared 31 years of marriage. Those who knew him will always remember his caring, honest, kind, and beautiful smile that he passed along to everyone he met.
Charles and his wife always wanted to share that they were saved and baptized during a Billy Graham Crusade in Marion.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise DeRosia Stewart; brother, Tommy Stewart; sisters: Grace Robinson, Dorothy Sparks, Mary Dogen and Martha Wright; step-sons: Brian Hartley and Kevin Hartley; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Bear Creek Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow with Pastor Toby Crowder officiating. Burial immediately following in the church cemetery.
Charles will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and all who knew and loved him.
