Residents and visitors alike had a blast riding bikes, playing lawn games, climbing on inflatables, and so much more during the Sizzlin’ Summer Series. This year more than 1,500 people came out to enjoy free, fun community events on the Burnsville Town Square during eight Saturdays throughout this rainy summer.
Healthy Yancey, a coalition of Partners Aligned Towards Health, developed the Sizzlin’ Summer Series to promote connections between neighbors and people in Yancey County. The series also aims to increase physical activity, by offering free, public ways to be active and positively engage in the community. Sizzlin’ Summer Series works hard to offer activities that welcome participation from people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
Once again the series showcased a wide range of what our area has to offer, with learning, fun, and physical activity on full display. This year featured another story trail with Blue Ridge Partnership for Children, several opportunities to practice preparedness, latin dance on the square, another amazing presentation of Reading is Alive, a nighttime movie showing, bike riding, robot building and so much more.
