David “Nothead” Willis, age 62, of the Beans Creek community, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Johnson City Medical Center.
Born on October 26, 1963, in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Edwin Luther Willis and Anna Lou Garland Willis. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Edwin Willis.
David was a devoted Christian and a true family man who loved his family and his church dearly. He worked for Baxter Healthcare for 42 years, where he served as a lead man. He was a longtime deacon of his church and also taught the youth group for many years. David had a heart for the young people in his community and church and spent time coaching T-ball for many children throughout the years. When he was not working or serving others, David enjoyed hunting, especially deer hunting, spending time with his old dogs, and riding his side-by-side. Above all, he treasured the time he spent with the people he loved, especially his wife and their two daughters.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 41 years, Mona Willis; two daughters, Amber Willis and Brittany Miller, both of Bakersville; two sisters, Cynthia Hill and husband, Roy, of Bakersville, and Angela Gortney and husband, Daron, of Spruce Pine; nieces and nephews, Candie Hill of Bakersville, Andrew Hill of Burnsville, Dalton Clark of Morganton, Leah McClellan and husband, Josh, of Spruce Pine, and Jake Freeman of Charleston, South Carolina; along with several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026, at Beans Creek Church of Jesus Christ. Pastor G.B. Garland and Pastor David Byrd will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in the Lily Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the church youth group at 2035 Beans Creek Road, Bakersville, NC 28705.
