Katie York, age 45, of Doc Howell Road in Spruce Pine, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2026 at the Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, TN.
Born on July 17, 1981 in Buncombe County, she is the daughter of the late Deborah McKinney York and Gene York who still survives.
Katie was a member of the Black Mountain Baptist Church. She was born to be a mother and a housewife. She loved being called “Ya Ya” by her grandchildren. She loved cooking and taking care of her grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her family, going on shopping excursions and having beauty days. She also enjoyed traveling and taking cruises.
Left to cherish her memories are her father; Gene York, her daughters; Emily (Devin) and Kassie (Jose), her brothers; Adam (Tammi), John and Rodney, her grandchildren; Kora, Hudson, Addison, and Abel. As well as her fiancé Michael Buchanan.
The funeral service for Katie York will be on Monday, September 21, 2026 at 6:00 pm at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church with the Rev’s Josh Cooke and Dan Hodges officiating. The family will receive friends Monday, September 21, 2026 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Burnett Cemetery.
