Ouida McMahan, age 91, of the Bowditch Community, went Home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 10th, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Desta Hughes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvis McMahan, who passed away in 2006; a grandson, Mark McMahan; four sisters: Gladys Robinson, Joanna Tipton, Freida Ray and Peggy Gouge; and two brothers: Richard “Bud” Hughes and Carson Hughes.
Ouida was a homemaker that enjoyed cooking, canning, and working in her flowers. A favorite pastime of hers was watching the Atlanta Braves and Carolina Tarheels. She loved babysitting her grandkids and great-grandkids.
Surviving are her children: Mike McMahan (Frances), Tom McMahan (Gail Byrd), Teresa McCurry (Neil), and Karen Deyton, all of Burnsville; 8 grandchildren: Chris McMahan (Emily), Bryan McMahan, Jason Ray (Somer), Trent McCurry (Angela), Dustin McCurry (Whitney), Crystal Burns (Dennis), Danielle Deyton (April), and Charlie Greene; 17 great-grandchildren and 13 great, great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 14th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Service. Rev. Billy Mitchell will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 15th in the Bowditch Community Cemetery.
