Brutal Kidnapping and Assault in Madison County

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a brutal kidnapping and assault that was reported Sunday in the East Fork community. Sheriff Buddy Harwood said a person arrived at a home in the community, saying they had been kidnapped.

Deputies found the person with cuts to the face, body and arms. The person also had multiple cross symbols carved into the face and body. The person was transported for medical treatment.

Harwood said the person had been tied with barbed wire to a chair and a beam in the home and their mouth taped shut. The person had also been beaten with firearms and a crowbar and cut with multiple knives.

Madison County Sheriff’s detectives and deputies searched the area and found the likely location of the incident and obtained a search warrant.

Patrick Colby Banks, James Angel and Nicole Sawyer were found at the residence and arrested on numerous charges.

Banks was wanted by Probation and Parole for a parole violation and had a felony warrant for his arrest for cutting off a probation electronic monitoring device. Banks was also charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury with intent to kill, first-degree kidnapping, possession of a weapon of mass destruction and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Angel had a warrant for larceny and possession of marijuana from another county. Angel was also charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury with intent to kill, first-degree kidnapping and possession of a weapon of mass destruction.

Sawyer was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury with intent to kill, first-degree kidnapping and possession of a weapon of mass destruction.
