Edsel Lee McCourry, age, 82, of Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 5th, 2023 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital.
A native of Yancey County, he was the son of the late Jeter and Gladys Fox McCourry. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Edsel L. McCourry, Jr.; granddaughter, Raeanna McCourry and brother, Jeter Lee McCourry.
Edsel was a U.S. Coast Guard Veteran. He enjoyed collecting and working on guns, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving is his loving wife, Anna Mae Riddle McCourry; sons: James David McCourry (Jennifer) and Charles McCourry; daughter, Lisa Miller (E.L.); grandchildren: Haley, Derrick (Courtney), David Ethan (Shayleigh), Mason, Hannah and Abigail (Gabby); brother, Charlie McCourry (Helen) and sisters: Vada Woody (Phillip), Senia Mae Fox, Rita Dale (Danny) and Ginger Shepherd (David) all of Burnsville. Several other extended family members also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Service with Rev. David Ethan McCourry and Rev. Steve Penland officiating. Burial will follow in the Peter Honeycutt Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the Sgt. E.L. Randolph Chapter #57 D.A.V. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
