I can’t believe the ignorance of some people who post these comments. If you think for one minute a retiree is keeping a young person from working in Yancey county you have no brain cells left. The young people who want to work have many opportunities. The key words here are WANT TO WORK! Employers are begging for people and they come in and stay a week or two and decide they don’t want to work. Without the older generation continuing to work, many places would no longer be able to operate. Also if the “old” people stop working the young ones won’t have anyone to keep them up! So find another useless gripe. This one DOES NOT hold water.
Maybe if the occupancy tax goes up it will stop some of the “foreigners” out and they will find a cheaper place to go. They could certainly find a much cheaper place to buy groceries while on vacation. This county is pathetic in the prices we pay for groceries because one company is allowed to have a monopoly while the Economic Development Office does nothing to help us.
