Nelda Sue Bennett Baker, age 87 of Slagle Rd Bakersville, NC went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, March 25, 2023.
She was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a daughter of the late Baxter and Willetta Canipe Bennett. She was previously employed with Ellen’s Knitting Mill and retired from Baxter Healthcare.
Nelda was a member of Snow Hill Baptist Church and her hobbies included: reading, enjoying flowers, and cooking for her family. She loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
Survivors include: two children; Debra Buchanan and husband Mike, of Bakersville, NC, and Vicky Greene, of Marion, NC, two stepchildren; Linda Carpenter, of Hawaii, and Kenneth Baker, of Bakersville, NC, three brothers; Paul Bennett, of Johnson City, TN, Arthur Bennett (who was her caregiver for the last few years), of Bakersville, NC, and Tim Bennett, of Spruce Pine, NC, eight grandchildren; Michael and Matthew Buchanan, Nathan and Logan Greene, Brittany Cary, Jason Weston, Karen Melton, and Brian Baker, seven great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death in addition to her parents by her husband Luther William Baker, and her siblings; Grace Bennett, Muriel Laws, Kaye Johnson, and Bill Bennett.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 3:00PM in the chapel of Henline – Hughes Funeral Home with Reverend Dean Honeycutt and Reverend Chris Rathbone officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Snow Hill Cemetery.
