Speaking freely about freely speaking

I have to ask again, is your sense of perception failing you? Every day I hear people on both sides hide or justify their bad behavior behind their fear of speaking out, all while exercising their freedom of speech. As I said, I am a free speech purist who will defend to the end the right of people to say any nutty thing they want. Here’s the thing, though. The only people who seem to be trying to pass laws to stop free speech are on your side of the fence. That’s authoritarianism. It sometimes sounds a bit paranoid, but mental illness or fear of things not going your way can’t be the reason for stopping other folks from also speaking freely. Anyone who is not being threatening and fears losing social connections over speaking freely about what they believe really needs to find new friends. Anyone who fears losing jobs they are doing well because they are speaking freely and who is not being threatening to those around them at work needs to run that complaint to the top of the flag pole. Then everyone needs to think hard about how they won’t be able to do that if authoritarian laws are put in place.

The first Amendment: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
