Parkway Playhouse Hosts ’60’s Themed Concert

Parkway Playhouse is opening its season with a groovy 1960s-themed concert featuring The Love Collective vintage cover band on May 20, 2023 at 7:30pm.

“In 2018 I was approached by a well-known theater fan who asked if I would be interested in creating, casting, directing, and singing in a musical cabaret revue to help raise funds for a local theater.” Says Ellen Pappas, founder of The Love Collective.

“Me? Create my own show? With my own cast? Direct it? SING in it?!? And this fan would produce it? How could I possibly refuse? I was aware that several theaters were staging Broadway musical revues at that time, so I felt that audiences were ready for something different. Thus, the first Happy Together Revue was born and built around music from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, and, just for fun, the cast would dress in outfits from those years. Last year we changed our name to The Love Collective because it really reflects who we are and what we do.”

The concert on May 20th at Parkway Playhouse will focus on The Love Collective’s 1960s song choices, to celebrate Parkway Playhouse’s Southern-Fried Sixties season that will feature four comedies all set in the South or the ‘60s.

“My producer had the brilliant idea that the audience should also dress in costumes from those years, and audience participation was a must! Our first audience contained poodle skirts, leather jackets over white tees, saddle shoes, Mod miniskirts, go-go boots, Nehru jackets, hippies galore, and glam. What an event!”

Get out your best 1960s glam for this exciting occasion and cruise on up to support the theater with this night of fun! This event will also feature raffle prizes that are outta sight. Fab JetBlue Tickets, twitchin’ Pickleball lessons, and all sorts of way-out items from across our Burnsville Community!

“I’m happy to say our audiences dance with us, sing with us, and kazoo along with us!” In fact, “we expect our audiences to dance, sing and kazoo along. It’s the law of the Love Collective.” Pappas says. “We always have a ‘special guest’ which has included Elvis, Sonny & Cher, or a local musician. This go round, we have our own ‘Patsy Cline.’”

This event will be a fundraiser for Parkway Playhouse Theater. Proceeds from this event will go towards their goals for building repairs, fair wages for artists, and creating new and exciting community outreach programs.

Tickets are $25 for Adults rows A – F, $20 for Adults rows G – K, and $16 for 17 and under. First come, first serve. Tickets are now available online at www.parkwayplayhouse.com.
