One person was killed and two others seriously injured in a head-on collision south of Bakersville in Mitchell County on Monday, April 24, 2023.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol troopers report said the crash occurred around 1:30 p.m. on N.C. 226 near Wilson Road when a 2004 GMC SUV traveling south crossed the center line and hit a 1999 Chevrolet SUV that was traveling north.
40 year old Jason Samuel Davis, of Spruce Pine, was killed in the crash. He was a passenger in the GMC. The drivers of both vehicles were flown to Johnson City Medical Center with serious injuries.
All occupants were wearing seat belts and no alcohol or drugs were suspected. Authorities said charges are pending at this time.
