State Superintendent Visits Yancey Schools

The North Carolina Superintendent of Public Instruction visited Yancey County Schools on Thursday May 12th. Catherine Truitt started her tour at Blue Ridge Elementary, talking with students and teachers and touring classrooms.

Yancey County Schools received $36 million in funding from the state over the past two years with plans to renovate five schools, including two additions to expand Pre-K.  Truitt mentioned the growth in that area.

During her tour, Truitt got inside one of the heavy equipment simulators to see the new technology firsthand.

Absenteeism is a lingering problem caused by the pandemic, but Truitt said there are already signs of recovery.

Yancey County Schools Superintendent Kathy Amos said she was grateful for the support from the state.
