Arvil “Homer” Ayers, age 85, of Green Mountain, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 5th, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Edgel and Ora Fox Ayers. He was also preceded in death by brothers: Leonard, Harley and Dean Ayers; infant twin brothers: Dennis and Lennis and sisters: Una Mae Ayers, Mary Lois Callahan and Wilma Hughes. Homer was a member, former Deacon, Superintendant, Sunday School Teacher and song leader at Zion Baptist Church. First and foremost he loved the Lord. He was a carpenter by trade and enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and especially spending time with his family.
Surviving is his loving wife of over 60 years, Billie Laws Ayers; son, Randy Ayers and wife, Toyee; daughter, Reneeé Ayers Robinson and husband, Tim, all of Green Mountain; grandson, Christian Robinson of Green Mountain; granddaughter, Faith Peterson and husband, Daniel, of Bakersville; great-grandchildren: Easton, Eliza and Eli; brother, Allen Ayers and wife, Terri, of Georgia and brother-in-law, Gary Laws and wife, Janice, of Green Mountain. Several nephews, nieces and cousins also survive.
Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 8th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services followed with Military Honors conducted by the Sgt. E.L. Randolph Chapter #57 D.A.V. Rev. Roger Hilemon will officiate.
