I have no problem with people being concerned about how their taxes are spent. Thankfully, contrary to recent posts, the fact remains that we don’t have to worry about any “plush existence” for anyone including immigrants, veterans or the elderly, being funded with tax dollars. That’s just not happening.
As the child and spouse of active duty military for many, many years, in addition to the work done for veterans and the elderly following that service, I belonged to and worked with groups who worked tirelessly to allow our active duty personnel and veterans to live with dignity and a roof over their heads. That’s something many were unable to access given how “we” were treating and paying our military and how veterans benefits were handled and mishandled.
As previously noted, that was back when homeless veterans and the elderly were simply ignored. It was back before anyone here in our community was using homelessness to make bogus arguments about building codes and housing laws. That was back when the law or lack of law allowed many of these people manufacturing these arguments and resentments to take advantage of anyone they wanted including immigrants, veterans and the elderly. I am grateful we are moving in a more positive direction with laws and ordinances to make living in a basic home with a roof over your head something everyone can aspire to while keeping their dignity …and while stopping people from making a quick buck on “development” at the expense of others.
