Margaret Crain Young, age 88, of Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 19th, 2023 at her home. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Earlis and Jennie Silvers Crain. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Caroll Penland; sons: Mikel and Ricky Penland; sisters: Louise Phillips, Ennis Hardin and Dora Robinson; brothers: Tommy and Johnny Crain and son-in-law, Danny Ray.
Margaret was a light to everyone in her life. She loved flowers, every year she had the most beautiful flowers you have ever seen. It was not uncommon for people to stop by, walk through, and look at her beautiful flower gardens. In the winter at Christmas time, she had beautiful Christmas lights that people always enjoyed driving by to see. On Halloween, parents would always bring their children by to trick and treat and as they were older, they would remember coming by Margaret and Robert’s house. One of her most treasured trips was an adventure on the Great Smokey Mountain Railroad with her family. She enjoyed cooking and canning. Her greatest joy in life was her grandchildren.
Surviving is her loving husband of 29 years, Robert Young; daughter, Wanda Robinson (David); son, Carroll Penland Jr.; special grandson, Brian Ray (Kristi); grandchildren: Patricia, Margaret, Mikel an Gabriel; great-granddaughters: Victoria Brown (Dustin), Kaleigh Ray, Courtney Ray and Whitney Fox; great, great-grandchildren: Maci Brown and Nolan Ray; sisters: Theresa Collins (Kenneth) of Nebo, and Joyce Riddle of Weaverville and brothers: Albert Crain (Pauline) of Marion and Kenneth Crain of Nebo. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 26th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Preacher Don Mitchell will officiate. Burial will follow in the Collins Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until 1 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
