Richard Riddle

Richard Riddle, age 76, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at the Hospice Center at Charles A. George V.A. Medical Center in Asheville.

Born on October 9, 1946 in McDowell County, he was the son of the late Ed and Katherine Johnson Riddle. He was U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member and deacon at Grassy Creek Baptist Church. Prior to retirement he had driven a truck for Blevins & Riddle Oil Company, Underwood & Weld and Feldspar for a combined forty-nine years. He loved spending time with his family and particularly spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was also fond of having his family at home for Sunday dinners. In his spare time, he enjoyed making American flags.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of fifty-seven years; Peggy Biddix Riddle of the home; his daughters; Beth Stamey and husband, Todd of Spruce Pine and Gina Hollifield of Spruce Pine; his sister; Kaye Pitman and husband, Dean of Spruce Pine; his grandchildren; Shaylee Hollifield and husband, Eric, Annaka McKinney and husband, Will and Nate Stamey and girlfriend, Kaitlyn Sparks; his great grandchildren; Baylor and Kolly; his brother-in-laws; Phillip Buchanan and wife, Jean, and David Biddix and wife Marsha and many nieces and nephews and many beloved cousins and friends.

A service to honor the Life of Richard Riddle will be on Monday, July 17, 2023 at 7:00 pm at the Grassy Creek Baptist Church with the Rev’s. Nathan Silver, Gene Self and Matt Mills officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 pm until the service hour at the church. Inurnment will be in the Grassy Creek Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to either; St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital www.stjude.org/donate or Hospice Center at Charles A. George Medical Center www.va.gov/asheville-health-care/donate
