Marilyn L. Parsons age 89 of Scarlett Lane, Spruce Pine the Green Valley community passed away Thursday August 17, 2023, at the home of her daughter. Born in Avery County she was a daughter of the late Elize and Carrie Ollis Gouge. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert C. Buchanan, Clarence A. Ross and Charles McDonald Parsons, brothers; Joe, John and Mallie Gouge and sisters; Ann Franklin, Jenny Canipe, Vestine Buchanan, Bell Joines, Savannah Shuford, Naomi Hensley, Roberta Gouge and Kate Gouge.
Marilyn was a member of the Altamont United Methodist Church, she loved sewing, crocheting and gardening. She was a hard worker who never stopped.
Left to cherish her memories is her daughter, Juanita “Red” McKinney and husband Wayne of Spruce Pine, grandchildren; Bobbi Joe Carpenter (Dean) of Spruce Pine and Samuel Clay McKinney and wife Patricia of Johnson City, TN, great grandchildren; Meredith Stacy and husband Michael of Drexel, NC, Heather Carpenter of Spruce Pine and Justin Carpenter and wife Ashley of North Cove. She is also survived by great great grandchildren; Axle and Addy Carpenter and Rayland and Justin Stacy; two sisters; Gloria Stewart and Frances Creson both of Celo and extended family Charles and Carolyn Parsons of Newland and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Parsons will be Sunday August 20, 2023, at 4:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Sweet and Mr. Stacy Clark officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3:00 pm until the service hour at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Pine Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Blue Ridge or to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
