Margaret Delores Hughes Shull, age 76, of Buladean, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 27th, 2023 at her home. A native of Mitchell County, she was raised by Frank and Delia Hughes. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Zeddie “ZR” Shull; and her “sisters and brothers” she was raised with: Venia Hughes Coleman (Ralph), Carl Hughes (Brookie) and Okla Hughes, Hoyt Hughes, Arthur Hughes (Mary) and Bill Hughes (Angie). Margaret was a member of Odoms Chapel Freewill Baptist Church and Buladean Fire Department who was a hard worker and loved with all her heart. She enjoyed quilting by hand, word search puzzles, being outside in the sunshine, going to the beach and camping with her family.
Surviving is her daughter, Shelia Duncan and husband, Darren; granddaughter, Megan Buchanan and husband, Josh, all of Bakersville; five sisters: Virginia, Anna, Janice, Linda and Cheryl and one brother, Wade. Many cousins and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 31st in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Preachers Jimmy Arrowood and Robert Buchanan will officiate. Burial will follow in the Buladean Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
