NCDOT and the High Country Council of Governments are studying transit in 7 High Country counties: Yancey, Mitchell, Avery, Watauga, Ashe, Alleghany, and Wilkes. The goal of this study is to coordinate planning across counties and build transit partnerships for the region. The study is kicking off with the community survey and recommendations are expected in early 2024. The work is sponsored by the N.C. Department of Transportation Integrated Mobility Division (NCDOT IMD). Surveys are available online in English and Spanish and in-person, on transit vehicles and at senior centers in each county.
