First Degree Murder Charges from Carjacking

Jaden Isaiah Garay, the 23 year old man accused of shooting and carjacking a U.S. postal worker in Mars Hill Tuesday, is in custody in Madison County and charged with attempted first-degree murder.

Garay, from Atlantic Beach, Florida, was taken into custody yesterday morning in Burke County, following a chase and a manhunt.  He is being held on a 2 million dollar bond.

During the arrest Garay said he was sorry and wasn’t in a clear state of mind.

The U.S. Postal Service confirmed Teresa Ramsay was the mail carrier attacked on the job. She was taken to Mission hospital with serious injuries.

According to court records, in addition to the attempted first-degree murder charge, Garay is also due in court in Buncombe and Yancey counties later this year – both of those cases in regard to traffic offenses.
