Yancey County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Christy Wood has tendered her resignation to the Chamber Board Chair and to the Yancey County Travel and Tourism Board. Wood began the position in October of 2020. Yancey Chamber of Commerce Board Chairperson Kem Muller said in a press release, “It pains me to have to communicate this information, and is with great sadness, that I let you know that Christy Wood, the Executive Director of our Yancey County Chamber of Commerce, has submitted her resignation. Christy has done immeasurable good in this community since the moment her feet hit the ground here in Burnsville. She has exponentially increased programming through the Chamber of Commerce to provide networking and educational opportunities, statewide exposure, and growth for all of its members and businesses. She has tirelessly committed to her continued education which she has used as a vehicle to facilitate an astounding increase in membership, tourism, and revenue for the area over the past three years. It is a massive understatement to say, “she did a good job”. This community, through the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, has some huge shoes to fill. Christy is moving on to another mountainous region in Corvallis, Oregon where she has accepted a position as their Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, effective October 6th. Our loss is most definitely their gain. Her long-time right-hand man, Pete Krulder has agreed to take on the interim position while we conduct our search for a new full-time person. We are very grateful to Pete for his willingness to serve during this transition.”
