Anyone paying attention to what’s going on with opinion pages and forums across the country knows that no one has to have the intention of convincing anyone of anything to spread the word and deed of those who do. Personally, I don’t care about anyone’s intentions. Above my pay grade. I do care about the outcomes of well intended people on anonymous forums who are influencing the environment in which we are having conversations, or at least trying to. As someone who has actually studied and known people with narcissistic tendencies, I’d keep an eye on anyone posting opinions just to hear themselves or see themselves in print without consequences to themselves. No, people who question other people’s opinion and call them on bad logic and misrepresentation are not usually doing the things they are calling attention to. And what is the contradiction about taking things too seriously while suggesting going to other places for entertainment? What’s that about? I am fascinated by the people who defend their right to express their opinion while seeming to think no one else can do the same thing. Very weird, circular logic at work.
