Elberta Willis Wing

Elberta Willis Wing, age 102, formerly of the Rebels Creek community, passed away Friday, October 6, 2023 at the Mitchell House in Spruce Pine.

Born on November 24, 1920 in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Stokes and Pearl Silver Buchanan. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence Willis, her second husband, Lester Wing and her son, Victor Willis and her brothers; Sherwin, John, Lowell and Stuart Buchanan.

Elberta was a member of the Rebels Creek Baptist Church and was retired from American Thread Company. She enjoyed writing poetry, working crossword puzzles and reading. She also enjoyed having fun and joking around, traveling, seeing lighthouses and working in her flowers. At the Mitchell House, she was known as the ‘unofficial Momma’ to everyone.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughters; Sharon Willis of Kernersville; Peggy ‘Penny’ Tyson of Dallas, TX and Brenda Buchanan and husband, Barry of Mooresville; her grandchildren; Tyrone, Jeffery, Kristi, Shannon, Brandi, Brooke, Kandi, and Kevin; sixteen great grandchildren and thirteen great great grandchildren.

A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Sunday, October 8, 2023 from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 3:00 pm on Sunday, October 8, 2023 in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev. Adam Davis officiating. Interment will be in the Rebels Creek Cemetery.
