The recently approved North Carolina State budget includes $53.4 million for Mitchell County and $4 million for Yancey County.
Lists of projects includes:
Mitchell County
- $50,000 for the Mitchell-Yancey Habitat for Humanity to purchase a building
- $2,000,000 to the Mayland Community College Foundation, Inc. For the Avery-Mitchell Animal shelter
- $2,500,000 to the Town of Spruce Pine for the Highway 226 South waterline replacement project
- $2,700,000 to Mitchell County for capital improvements or equipment at the athletics complex
- $3,000,000 to the Blue Ridge Resource Conservation and Development Council for storm water and stream rehabilitation projects
- $6,500,000 to Mayland Community College to develop a YMCA site in Mitchell County (corresponds with an additional $6,400,000 appropriation to the Avery County YMCA for Mitchell County site development).
- $14,500,000 to Mitchell County Schools for capital improvements at Mitchell High School athletics facilities.
- $15,700,000 to the Mountain Community Health Partnership, Inc. for the construction of the Spruce Pine Integrated Healthcare Clinic and Headquarters.
Yancey County
- $2,000,000 to Yancey County for improvements to the Sheriff’s Office facilities
- $1,800,000 to the Town of Burnsville for a police and public works building
- $200,000 to the Yancey History Association for capital improvements to the museum
