Kenneth Britt McCurry, age 71, of Green Mountain, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 13th, 2023 at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville. A native of Yancey County, he was one of ten children to the late Voyd and Daisy Lockner McCurry. Kenneth was also preceded in death by his wife, Robin Wray McCurry, who passed away in 1992; siblings: Anna Lou McCurry, Cecil Wade McCurry and three other infants who passed away at birth; sisters-in-law: Geraldine Ann McCurry and Kathy McCurry; and a brother-in-law, Herbert Hopson.
Kenneth was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served during the Vietnam Era. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church. He had worked with Cranston Printworks for over 20 years, as well as being a truck driver. He loved old trucks and general “junk”.
He is survived by his son, Britt McCurry (Lisa) along with their children, Logan and Robin of Mebane; his daughter, Jamie Price (Brandon) along with their children, Hayden and Hannah of Leland; brothers: Craig McCurry of Asheville and James McCurry of Green Mountain; sisters: Linda Sue Hopson of Green Mountain and Judy Barnett (Owen) also of Green Mountain and a sister-in-law, Nora Peterson McCurry of Horton Hill. Numerous nieces, nephews and his special canine companion, Ty, also survive.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 21st in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Barry Jenkins and Rev. Blaine Whitson will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the services. Military graveside rites will follow the funeral service in the Moses Peterson Cemetery on Hill Road in Green Mountain with honors conducted by the Sgt. E. L. Randolph Chapter #57 D.A.V., of which he was a member.
