Betty H. Goolsby, age 89, of the Banner Elk Community, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 29th, 2023 at the Cranberry House.
A native of Caldwell, NC, she was a daughter of the late Ervin and Sarah Weaver Holler. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Vernon Goolsby; sisters: Edith Melton, Lena Little and Pearl Hensley and brothers: Charlie and Russell Hollar. She enjoyed cooking, reading and quilting.
Betty graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College with a Bachelor’s in education. She taught school for 37 years, many years later as an Academically Gifted teacher. She taught at McIver Elementary School in Greensboro, Sharon Elementary School in Charlotte and Gamewell Elementary School in Lenoir and as an Academically Gifted teacher in Sawmills Elementary School, Lower Creek Elementary School and Oak Hill Elementary School as well as Hudson Elementary School.
Surviving is her daughter, Alisa Ballard and husband, Greg; granddaughter, Jayme Vernon and husband, Cas, all of Beech Mountain; great-grandchildren: Jaxon Gallop, Caitlin Vernon, Haleigh Vernon and Hannah Vernon. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Inurnment will be held in the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery.
