Donald “Don” Pershing Hensley, age 78, of Plum Branch, entered into the presence of the Lord on Monday, October 30th, 2023 at Mission Hospital. A native of Yancey County, he was born to the late Pershing and Ruth Stevens Hensley on November 21st, 1944. He was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Ricky D. Boone and John Faircloth.
Donald was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam Era. He attended Shoal Creek Baptist Church. He graduated from Appalachian State University, and retired from Mayland Community College after thirty years of service. He loved his cats, and loved to hunt and fish with his best friend – his son, Brian.
Donald is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Jearline; son, Brian Hensley (Lori); sisters-in-law: Wanda Hughes (Edward) and Loretta Faircloth; brother-in-law, Rev. Dwight Boone Jr. (Debbie); nieces: Shannon Anders (Bobby), Daphne Buchanan (Brandon), Natalie Smith (Matthew) and Hannah Faircloth; nephew, D.W. Boone; great-nieces: Tara, Tegan and Ragan; and great-nephews: Eli, Easton and Greyson. Special cousins and friends survive him as well.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 4th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Service. Rev. Dick Westbrook will officiate. Burial will follow in the Pete Young Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
