General Statute 143-215.1C requires that the owner or operator of any wastewater collection or treatment works to issue a press release when an untreated wastewater discharge of 1,000 gallons or more reaches surface water.
In accordance with that regulation, the following news release has been prepared and issued to media in the affected county: Yancey
The Town of Burnsville had a discharge of untreated wastewater from a manhole near 515 E US Hwy 19E Bypass of approximately 5,600gallons. The discharge occurred on November 2, 2023 for approximately 1 1/2 hours. The untreated wastewater entered into Little Crabtree Creek in the French Broad River Basin.
The Division of Water Resources was notified of the event on November 2, 2023 and is reviewing the matter. For more information contact the Town of Burnsville at 828-682-2420.
