Mitchell County Salutes Veterans

Mitchell County saluted their veterans on Wednesday, November 8th with Coffee and doughnuts served in the Mitchell High Library at 10 am followed by. with a ceremony honoring veterans for their service. Matthew Hurd gave the Welcome, Allison Pittman sang the national anthem. a Veteran Day speech was given by Brinkley Hodshon followed by a veteran Trivia Contest. Delany Jenkins, Brody Miller and Kylee Carversang “The8th of November”. Individual veterans were recognized and Jeb Sturgill led the Mitchell High Band with armed forces songs. Luke Yelton sang “Thew Good Lord and the Man” Jeb Sturgill played Taps to close the program.

Afterwards, a catered BBQ lunch was held for all veterans and their families.

Friday, November 10th will be a special day for veterans at DT’s Blue Ridge Java in Spruce Pine. Veterans will receive a free meal during business hours of 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Saturday, November 11th features two events. First Baptist Church in Spruce Pine will host a Veterans Breakfast beginning at 8:00 a.m. with all Veterans and their families invited to come eat and enjoy fellowship. Then at 10:00 a.m., Mitchell County Chapter 58 of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) will hold a wreath-laying at the Mitchell County Courthouse in Bakersville. Everyone is invited to attend this ceremony.
