Bill Pittman, age 92, of Jarrett Road in Bakersville, the Ledger community, passed away Thursday, November 23, 2023 at his home.
Born on October 14, 1931 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Green and Maggie Davis Pitman. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers; Weldon and Andrew Pittman and his sisters; Mary Sparks, Harriet Biddix, Lucy Dellinger and Lennie Mae Pittman.
Bill was a member of the Bear Creek Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and a former church trustee. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served two years in Germany and was Vice President of Spruce Pine Mica. He was an avid fan of the North Carolina Tar Heels and enjoyed camping fishing and was an internet junkie.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of seventy years; Marlene Ayers Pittman of the home; his sons; Greg Pittman and wife, Cindy of Thomasville, NC; Jeff Pittman and wife, Crystal of Greenwood, SC; and Charles Pittman and wife, Jennifer of Spruce Pine; his grandchildren; Caleb Pittman and wife, Ashley; Ayla Snead and husband, Edward; Hunter Cornett and wife, Kelcy; Savanah Wood and husband, Jared; Shelbey Pitman and Hunter Johnson; and BJ Niven and wife, Betsy; and his great grandchildren; Olivia and Noah; Lilly and Kit; Harper, Anderson, Lizzy and Whitlee; Rosalie, Charlie, Indy and Scotlyn; Aubrey and Abbey.
A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Sunday, November 26, 2023 from 1:30 pm until 2:30 pm at Bear Creek Baptist Church. The funeral service will be at 2:30 pm on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at Bear Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Bruce Cannon officiating. Interment will be in the Bear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
