Being Independent, Really

Ya’ll are all a trip, the ones trying to define what or who all Independents are as though registering as an independent makes someone part of some monolith that can be defined by you, based on you. I’m an Independent and the only thing most of my other friends registered as Independents and I agree on politically is that we aren’t Republicans or Democrats or Greens or whatever that new bunch of folks competing to tell the rest of us what to do are. “No Labels,” is that what they’ve labeled themselves? That’s a laugh. The world and politics is not as simple as you are trying to make it so you can understand or manipulate it. How self-centered do people have to be to start defining other people like that, labeling other people like that? It’s a trip, for sure, a sad delusional trip. For some of us who are registered as Independents it’s not that we can’t make up our mind, it’s that we understand there are more than two choices about most everything. It’s not being a phony Independent to reject what is often some phony “centrist” position and call it making peace at the expense of justice. Can we all just get over ourselves for a minute and stop trying to tell other people who and what they are? Folks, “we” don’t know who or what other people are.
