Thomas Garylee Benfield, age 8, of the Buck Hill Community, gained his Angel wings on Sunday, December 31st, 2023.
Thomas was born a miracle baby on February 5th, 2015 in Memorial Mission Hospital to Randy Benfield, Jr. and Ashley Calloway Benfield.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Gary Carpenter. Thomas was a 3rd grader at Newland Elementary.
He enjoyed making everyone smile, where he made a difference in people lives that he met. He loved being with his brother and sisters, going on car rides, music, dancing and being outside.
Surviving in addition to his parents, Randy and Ashley are his sisters: Emaleeha and Lexa Benfield; brother, Axel Benfield; maternal grandparents: Robert and Kendell Calloway of Newland; paternal grandmother, Amy Benfield of Newland; great-grandparents: June and Irene Benfield of Newland; aunts: Ellen Trivette (also a special nurse) and husband Brandon, of Newland, Angela Calloway and husband, Joe, of Lexington and Sauleta Braswell of Newland; uncles: Timmy Benfield and wife, Candace (also a special nurse), of Newland, James Benfield and Donald Benfield and wife, Nancy (also a special nurse); two other aunts and uncles of Spruce Pine; his fur babies: Sadie and Aries. Numerous cousins and many friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 11th at Victory Baptist Church in Newland. Rev. Ethan Greene, Rev. Mike Laws and Rev. Wesley Duncan will officiate. Burial will follow in the Benfield Cemetery with Donald Benfield doing a special prayer. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 2 p.m. prior to the services at the church.
