Donald Lee Moss, age 83, of Burnsville, passed away on Sunday, January 7th, 2024 at the John F. Keever Solace Center. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Coy and Minnie Styles Moss. He was also preceded in death by the mother of his daughter, Lee Scott; two brothers: James David Moss and Roy “Red” Horace Moss; and an infant sister, Vida Kay Moss.
Donald was a farmer and raised tobacco, as well as being a mechanic. He was a collector of coins and knives, and also enjoyed fishing. Donald loved his family and was always there for them. Anytime he was telling his grandchildren goodbye, he would always say to them, “Hold it in the road.” He will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
Surviving is his daughter, Susan Stansberry (Eugene) of Burnsville; five grandchildren: David Stansberry (Wendy) of Penland, Donny Stansberry (Melanie) of Burnsville, Heather Stansberry (Uriel) of Cranberry, William Stansberry (Sandy) of Burnsville, and Amy Stansberry of Burnsville; and thirteen great-grandchildren: Kaylan, Madelyn, Mackenzie, Nicholas, Joselyn, Lyna, John, Ethan, Kayleigh, Leah, Bentley, Keven and Landon.
Due to cemetery road conditions, a graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 15th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Burial will be in the Holcombe Branch Cemetery in Madison County.
