Lucille Sullins Hovis of Spruce Pine, NC died on January 20, 2024.
Mrs. Hovis was born July 28, 1923, in Spruce Pince, NC, the daughter of the late James Herbert Sullins and Anne Cook Sullins.
She was a graduate of Harris High School in Spruce Pine, a graduate of Brevard College in 1942 and a graduate of Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Charlotte, NC in 1944. She served for many years as a Registered Nurse in Spruce Pine and in Student Health Services at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC where she completed a B.S. in Psychology.
Mrs. Hovis was preceded in death by her husband, John Samuel Hovis and daughter, Flora J. Hovis.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol H. Pharr of Charlotte, NC; by her grandson, Athos Rostan, III and wife Jennifer of Hickory, NC; by her granddaughter Elizabeth C. Rostan of Charlotte, NC; and her great-grandsons Matthew Alexandre Rostan and Andrew James Rostan of Hickory, NC. Also surviving are two sisters, Wanda Thomas of Burnsville, NC and Carolyn Robinson of Spruce Pine, NC, numerous nieces and nephews, and her dear friend, Laura Singleton who provided her with loving care for almost eight years.
A private inurnment will be held in the Spruce Pine Memorial Mausoleum.
The family is grateful for the incredible care provided by the staff of the Mitchell House and assistance provided by Brittany Pittman of Hospice and Home Care of the Blue Ridge, Inc.
