Tommy Johnson Gibbs, age 87, of Newdale, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at Mission Hospital of Asheville. A native of Yancey County.
Surviving is his loving wife of 67 years, Mary Alice Presnell Gibbs; two daughters: Mary Ann Terrell of Asheville and Sarah Parker of Newdale; two sons: David Gibbs (Cynthia) of Hurdlemills, NC and John Gibbs (Pamela) of Burnsville; 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Tommy was a member of Martins Chapel UMC of Newdale. He worked at Glen Raven for 49 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling as well as spending time on his farm. He leaves behind many friends and neighbors.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of The Greens nursing facility of Spruce Pine and Compassionate Care Hospice of Yancey for the wonderful care provided to Tommy. He will be missed by all who knew him.
In honor of his request, no services will be held.
